Jun 3, 2009 Thinking of becoming a lifeguard?
Six great reasons for you to gain a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification.
1) You can achieve great job satisfaction from knowing you are performing a public service. Lifeguards are equipped to deal with almost any water emergency so your role protecting the welfare and safety of pool users is very important.
2) It will help you to develop your fitness. Not only do you need a good level of fitness to qualify, but if you gain employment as a lifeguard you'll also be encouraged to maintain it. If you are working for a leisure centre after you qualify then you may even receive free use of the facilities to help you do this.
3) Another benefit of working within the leisure industry is that your work colleagues will be young like minded people, giving you the opportunity to work within a friendly team and the chance to increase your social circle.
4) Working as a lifeguard is perfect if you require flexible working hours, ideal if you need to fit work around your studies.
5) If you are interested in a career within the leisure industry, starting as a lifeguard is a great way to gain access. Many managers and senior staff actually began on poolside.
6) You'll gain life saving and first aid skills which will be useful to yourself and others for life.
Sounds good doesn't it? But before you dive in to work as a lifeguard you'll first need to become qualified. To do this you need to get a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification. (NPLQ)
