Feb 19, 2009 Energy Efficient Sports Centres

Horizon Leisure Centres works in partnership with Havant Borough Council. A good example of how this partnership works can be seen in the replacement of the lighting system in the small sports hall at Havant Leisure Centre. The new lights, paid for by the council, have replaced the old system with a new intelligent system.

The lights each have motion sensors that will dim the lighting level if they detect no movement after eight minutes in the sports hall. If there is still no movement a few minutes later the lights will turn off completely. This lighting will save electricity and reduce the carbon footprint of the leisure centre.

Havant Leisure Centre now hopes to replace more of its lights with the same system o become even more environmentally friendly. The centre currently has an energy efficiency rating of 'C'. A typical building of this size would normally have a rating of 'D' or below.
