The gym at Havant Leisure Centre was shortlisted in the Local Authority/Leisure Trust Gym of the Year category at this years National Fitness Awards, an event that recognises excellence and achievement in gyms throughout the country.
The glittering awards ceremony took place at the Leicester Athena in Leicester on 2 December 2016 and staff from Horizon’s Gym and Marketing department were extremely proud to represent the charity at the prestigious event.
The massive gym at Havant Leisure Centre opened in 2014 and won the Portsmouth News Gym of the Year in 2015 following huge support from its members. It has a 2 lane running track and over 160 work stations including boxing frames. There is a large free weights area and is one of the largest gyms on the south coast.
The Havant gym, along with its sister gym at the Waterlooville Leisure Centre, offers some of the best value for money exercise facilities available in the area. Staffed by fully qualified friendly gym instructors, who offer great advice and motivation to help customers achieve their personal health and fitness targets.
Howard Broad, Horizon’s Chief Executive commented ‘For a leisure provider operating from Havant and Waterlooville, it’s a great achievement to be shortlisted in this national fitness awards competition for the third year running. The team at Horizon have worked tirelessly to deliver a fantastic gym at Havant Leisure Centre which has been much appreciated by our members and as a charity we are proud of the high standard of facility we have provided to the local community’.
The awards were organised by leading fitness industry magazine Workout, with support from headline sponsor Service Sport. In each category up to seven finalists were selected and put through a judging process where they had to impress by showcasing first-hand the great work going on in their clubs.
National Fitness Awards’ director Judith Halkerston said: “The quality and quantity of National Fitness Awards’ entries just keep improving year on year and everyone who has been shortlisted this year should be really proud of their achievement so far as competition was so strong and standards so high.”
Horizon hope that by being shortlisted for national award such as this and attending events where gyms from all of the country are also attending, they are more than on the way to putting Havant Horizon on the map!
